Kaiserslautern

Right in the heart of Kaiserslautern Minister of the Interior in Rhineland-Palatinate Roger Lewentz; Dr. Klaus Weichel, head mayor of Kaiserslautern, and CEO of KL.digital Dr. Martin Verlage inaugurated the Smart-City-Project „Fauthweg“ on 12. August 2019.

During the last months the City of Kaiserslautern, KL.digital and ICE Gateway had worked intensively on the path’s digitization and conversion of the of total ten streetlights. The 300-meter-long pilot line now includes the longest intelligent and interconnected line of luminaires in Rhineland-Palatinate. The smart line showcases various innovations. Push buttons and motion detectors control the lights on a demand-driven basis. The lights autonomously signal malfunctions and maintenance requirements. Projectors display warning messages on the sidewalk, if the pavement is slick. The luminaires can be controlled remotely, e.g. from a control center. Sensors for the measurement of temperature and humidity and frequency of use are also in place. The light itself is right where it is supposed to be: using modern LED technology reduces the energy consumption up to 70% when the light is turned on while the scattered light is being reduced immensely.

The “Fauthweg”-project helps Kaiserslautern to further establishes its role as a digital forerunner in Rhineland-Palatinate. It was a conscious decision to convert the existing streetlights, to create a sustainable example for other municipalities.

For KL.digital the inauguration is an important step into the digital future, including a huge benefit for the citizens. Dr. Martin Verlage, CEO of KL.digital, stated regarding the inauguration: „ The project is a perfect fit for the city of Kaiserslautern. The human being sets the tone here. Pedestrians and cyclists can individually adjust the illumination intensity by using a button and thus e.g. enlarge the brightness in case of a visual impairment of a heightened need for safety. Sensors measure the temperature and projectors show warning signs via letterings on the street, if it might be slippery.”

The company ICE Gateway developed the innovative Smart City solution and constructed the secure IoT-network based of their programmable Mobile Edge Computer (iceMEC). This solution paves the way to include, besides an intelligent light management, also the monitoring of environmental factors and traffic as well as the signaling of black ice.

Berlin Adlershof

In 2015, ICE Gateway installed 94 new smart lights with a LED light source and built-in intelligence close to our beloved headquarter in Adlershof, Berlin.


Installation

The smart light installation allows you to individually dim and switch off each light by using our management system. In addition, you can program the system in accordance to your needs and automatically change the light intensity on any given day and time. The smart traffic installation enables you to monitor and analyze the traffic flow between 24 nodes which equals 34 different routes.

Results

Due to our smart lights and its management system you save energy and costs. The analysis of the traffic flow has shown a lack of parking spaces – drivers circle the streets. Overall, our technology has been proven to be working without flaws. With our IoT solutions the area Adlershof is truly living up to its slogan “Science at work”.

Frankfurt am Main / City West

Projektbeschreibung

Den Einstieg in die Thematik Smart City machte der Frankfurter Energieversorger durch eine unsichtbare Installation zur Erfassung des Verkehrsaufkommens.

Installation

Q2 2019 installierte man 10 iceMEC Cabinets in den Schaltschränken, um via Bluetooth das Verkehrsaufkommen an 10 Positionen mit iceCROWD sowie mit iceFLOW den Verkehrsfluss zwischen definierten Punkten zu erfassen.
In zwei weiteren Schritten wurden in 2019/2020 insgesamt 11 iceMEC Boxen an den Leuchten im Viertel montiert und mit Sensorik ausgestattet.
iceSENSOR erfasst die Daten von 10 im Viertel installierten Sensoren. Dazu zählen Luftqualitätssensoren, Temperatursensoren, CO2 Sensoren, Wetter- und Lärmsensoren

Mit iceSENSOR kamen noch Sensoren zur Erfassung des Fahrbahnbelags (Glatteis, Nässe, Hitze) hinzu. Sie ermöglichen z.B. der kurzfristigen Informierung des Winterdienstes. Um den Mitarbeitern den Weg von der Bahnstation zum Firmengelände zu „erleichtern“, wurden 3 iceHOTSPOT zur WLAN Abdeckung installiert. Ein vierter wurde kurzfristig nachgerüstet, um die Abdeckung noch besser umsetzen zu können. Nach der Erprobungsphase wird Unternehmen Ende 2020, das Datenhosting als On-Premise-Lösung in die eigenen Hände zu nehmen.

Bürstadt

During Q4/2018 we installed an exciting solution around the Bürstadt railway station. The project was executed in close cooperation with the city administration, Thüga, SRM (responsible for the streetlights) and Selux, our cooperation partner for high-quality lighting solutions.

Installation

At the request of SRM, Selux had integrated all technical components - iceMEC and WLAN hotspots - into the luminaires. No technical components can be found on the luminaire pole. The installed parking solution works with on-ground sensors connected to an iceMEC. The iceMEC then transmits the information if a parking space is free or occupied to the ICE Gateway Management Portal. In the next stage of the project, displays could be installed in Bürstadt to inform the residents about the parking situation at the station in real time, alternatively through the Bürstadt City App.

Results

With the installation of 44 smart streetlights, a parking solution, free internet access and the embedded security functions, the city of Bürstadt acts now at the forefront of Smart City developments.

 

Duisburg / Stadtpark

Projektbeschreibung

Die Stadt beschloss zur Verbesserung des etwas unsicheren Sicherheitsniveaus in einem Stadtpark, 8 Sensoren mit der Funktion iceAUDIO Aggression zu installieren, die an die vorhandene Straßenbeleuchtung angeschlossen wurden.

Installation

iceAUDIO erkennt aggressives Verhalten (anhand der Stimmmuster), Glasbruch (z.B. von Fensterscheiben) und Kugelschuss. Wird einer der Parameter erkannt, wird in Echtzeit per E-Mail oder SMS eine Benachrichtigung an eine hinterlegte Adresse versendet. So können die Mitarbeiter des Ordnungsamts zukünftig schnell vor Ort nach dem Rechten sehen und den Einsatz des Personals effizienter steuern. Die Stadt stellt die Daten direkt im eigenen System dar, nutzt zum Abruf der Daten also die API-Schnittstelle.
